Making art isn't about getting everything right. It's about noticing more, experimenting, trying new approaches and enjoying the process along the way.
Saltburn Art Club is a chance to step away from the demands of everyday life and spend a couple of hours focused on something creative.
Drawing on my experience as both an artist and teacher, I'll provide guidance, demonstrations and individual support while giving you the freedom to make creative decisions and develop your own style.
Each session stands alone, allowing you to dip in and out throughout the summer, or save money by booking the full 10-week series.
Whether you're a complete beginner or someone returning to art after many years, you'll leave each session with new skills, fresh ideas and work that is uniquely your own.

Tuesday 14th July
Pen & Watercolour – Saltburn Cliffs
We'll begin the series by capturing one of Saltburn's best-loved views. Learn how to simplify a busy landscape into strong shapes before using expressive pen work and loose watercolour washes to create a vibrant illustration. You'll discover how artistic licence can often produce a more engaging image than copying every detail.

Sketchbook Studies – Learning to See
One of the most valuable skills an artist can develop is learning what to draw rather than trying to draw everything.
This relaxed session explores how to frame a scene, simplify complicated views, identify the important shapes and create quick, confident sketchbook studies. We'll discuss composition, observation and how a sketchbook can become a place for experimentation rather than perfection.

Introduction to Lino Cutting
An ideal introduction to the wonderful world of lino printing.
You'll learn how to safely use lino cutting tools, transfer a design, understand positive and negative space and produce your own hand-printed artwork. It's a hugely satisfying process and often surprises people with just how achievable it is.
Tuesday 4th August
Scandinavian Folk Art Lino Prints
Create a beautiful hand-printed lino design inspired by the bold shapes and decorative patterns of Scandinavian folk art.
Using simple flowers, leaves and natural motifs, you'll learn how to carve and print your own striking design. This workshop is a wonderful introduction to lino cutting and is suitable for both complete beginners and those looking to explore a different style of printmaking.
Tuesday 11th August
Charcoal Tonal Drawing
Forget everything you thought you knew about charcoal.
Rather than focusing on outlines, we'll learn to draw with light and shadow, gradually building an image through tone. Using charcoal and erasers together, you'll create surprisingly detailed drawings while developing a much stronger understanding of form and contrast.
This workshop regularly changes people's opinions about charcoal.

Acrylic Painting – Sand Dunes
Discover how to build an atmospheric coastal landscape using acrylic paint.
We'll work in layers, gradually creating depth, texture and subtle colour through simple techniques that make painting feel approachable. You'll learn how to simplify a landscape, mix natural colours and create paintings full of light and space.
Tuesday 25th August
Botanical Illustrations
Create expressive botanical illustrations using waterproof ink and colourful pens to produce a fun, loose and illustrative style.
We'll explore how to simplify leaves, flowers and seed heads into confident line work before adding vibrant colour and playful detail. A relaxed session that's perfect for anyone wanting to develop a fresh, contemporary approach to drawing nature.

Chalk Tonal Drawing
Working on black paper with white chalk creates an entirely different way of thinking about drawing.
Instead of drawing shadows, you'll gradually build the light, creating dramatic images that emerge from the dark background. By limiting ourselves to just one material and one coloured paper, we can really concentrate on tone, shape and observation.

Pen & Watercolour – Local Scene Illustration
We'll combine expressive ink lines with loose watercolour to create an illustration inspired by our local surroundings.
Learn how different types of line can add character and energy to your work before using transparent washes to suggest colour without losing the freshness of the drawing underneath.
Tuesday 15th September
Oil Pastel Kingfishers
Finish the series by creating a vibrant kingfisher using the rich, expressive qualities of oil pastels.
You'll discover how to layer colours, blend soft transitions and build texture to bring this striking bird to life. Working with bold colour and simple techniques, you'll be surprised by just how much depth and vibrancy you can achieve. It's a fun, relaxed workshop and a colourful way to round off a summer of creativity.
