Refining with Acrylic Markers 29.7.26 Great Ayton

This week's Great Ayton Art Club was all about taking last week's vibrant ink studies one step further. After embracing the unpredictability of brightly coloured inks, we used acrylic markers to refine and enhance our fruit and vegetable illustrations.

The inks had already created beautiful blends and unexpected colour combinations, but the acrylic markers allowed us to define edges, add contrast and introduce bold highlights. Some people used them to strengthen the shape of their fruit, while others experimented with adding unexpected colours to create even more interest and depth.

It was a great reminder that artwork doesn't have to be completed in one sitting. Sometimes stepping away and returning with a different material allows you to see the piece with fresh eyes and make thoughtful creative decisions.

As always, it was brilliant to see everyone giving it a go. Time and time again people surprise themselves, discovering that a few confident marks can completely transform a piece of artwork. Every illustration ended up with its own unique personality, showing just how much creative freedom there is when you stop worrying about getting everything 'right' and simply enjoy the process.
