Lino, Colour and Experimentation (10th June)

Lino, Colour and Experimentation (10th June)

Tonight at Great Ayton Art Club we continued our exploration of lino printing, building on the techniques we introduced last week and pushing them a little further.

This time we worked from more challenging reference images and introduced a wider range of colours. We also experimented with colour gradients, rolling multiple inks onto the lino to create some really unique and striking prints.

Some people chose to revisit the designs they created last week, reprinting them with blended colours and gradients to see how dramatically the outcome could change. Others decided to start a completely new lino, focusing on creating cleaner cut lines and refining their carving techniques.

One of the wonderful things about lino printingg is that small changes can have a huge impact on the final print. Whether it was a new colour combination, a sharper line, or a different approach to carving, everyone found ways to develop their work and make it their own.

As always, it was lovely to see everyone fully immersed in the process, experimenting, solving problems, and learning through doing. By the end of the session there was a fantastic collection of prints, each with its own character and style.

The variety of outcomes was a great reminder that there is rarely one right way to approach a creative process. Sometimes the most interesting results come from simply being willing to try something new and see what happens.
