Last night at Great Ayton Art Club it was lovely to welcome some new faces, and as always, it was great to hear that people have gone away and bought their own art supplies to keep trying out techniques at home.
This session we worked with white chalk on black paper to create delicate still life images. It was all about learning to see the reference differently, focusing first on the darkest areas and gradually building the image from there.
Using just white chalk meant everyone could really concentrate on tonal values, exploring the full range of greys without getting distracted by colour. It encouraged people to look more carefully at light, shadow, and subtle changes in tone.
It was another really enjoyable evening, and lovely to see everyone settling into the process and creating such thoughtful work.
