Tonight at Great Ayton Art Club we worked on finishing our sand dune paintings by introducing texture medium into the acrylic paint, giving the work much more body and depth.
We concentrated on mixing colours carefully and applying the paint with confidence. Using a palette knife encouraged a much looser and more expressive approach, so everyone was encouraged to lean into the slightly unpredictable nature of the process rather than trying to control every mark.
It was lovely to see people becoming more confident with thicker paint and bolder textures, allowing the surface of the painting to become part of the image itself.
The finished paintings had a real sense of atmosphere and movement, and as always, it was great to see everyone enjoying the process and experimenting with the material.
