Composition and Creative Decisions at Saltburn Summer Arts Club 21,7,26

This morning at Saltburn Summer Art Club we explored the importance of composition and how the choices we make can completely change the impact of a piece of artwork.

Working from a variety of reference scenes, we experimented with what to include, what to leave out, and how simplifying a composition can often create a much stronger image. Rather than trying to copy everything we could see, the focus was on making thoughtful creative decisions.

Using fineliners and watercolour, we built up our sketches with simple line work, subtle washes, and carefully placed shadows to create depth, tone, and interest. It was wonderful to see how differently everyone interpreted the same ideas and how each piece developed its own character.
