Collage and Creativity at Great Ayton Art Club 6.8.26

Last night's Great Ayton Art Club was all about slowing down, playing with paper, and embracing the charm of collage.

Before any cutting or sticking began, everyone painted their own collection of colourful papers. This meant every collage started with a unique palette, giving each piece its own personality before the first shape had even been cut out.

As the evening went on, houses, rooftops and little details gradually began to appear. There was something wonderfully whimsical about seeing simple painted papers transformed into charming scenes through layering and composition. It was one of those sessions where there wasn't a rush to finish. Instead, everyone enjoyed the process of moving pieces around, trying different combinations, and letting the artwork evolve naturally.

Next week we'll continue adding a few more layers before introducing paint and pens over the top to bring the collages together and add those final details. I have no doubt they're going to look gorgeous, especially once they're mounted on coloured backgrounds and displayed in deep frames.

It's always exciting to see a project develop over more than one session, and I can't wait to see how everyone's collages evolve next week.
