Today I had the pleasure of hosting my first workshop at Castleton Village Hall, and it was wonderful to spend the evening creating together in such a welcoming space.
We worked with willow charcoal and rubbers to create some really striking images. Rather than thinking about drawing lots of lines, the focus was on building tone, using the charcoal to cover the paper before lifting areas back out with rubbers to reveal light. It’s a simple process that encourages people to see an image differently and often helps remove the fear of making mistakes.
As always, one of the best parts of the session was seeing people surprise themselves. It’s amazing how confidence grows when you trust the process, give yourself permission to experiment, and realise that creating something successful is often just a series of simple steps.
Thank you to everyone who came along and made the first Castleton workshop such an enjoyable one. I’m already looking forward to returning and sharing more creative sessions together.
