Botanical Illustration in Saltburn
LIndsey GrovesOur final Saltburn Summer Art Club session was a botanical illustration workshop, and it was such a lovely way to finish the summer programme.
The atmosphere was calm and relaxed as everyone got stuck into the process, using watercolour to create bright botanical studies. We focused on allowing the watercolour to blend naturally with other tones rather than trying to control every mark. Once dry, people could choose to add definition with coloured pens, picking out particular shapes and details.
The finished illustrations were beautiful. They were bright and colourful, but still managed to feel soft and delicate, and it was lovely to see how differently everyone approached the same process.
It felt like the perfect way to end our summer art classes in Saltburn. Over the course of the sessions we've experimented with different materials, learnt new techniques and, most importantly, given ourselves time to create.
I've really enjoyed running the Saltburn Summer Art Club, and I'll definitely be booking more art workshops in Saltburn throughout the year. Keep an eye on the website for new dates and upcoming creative workshops.
